This exclusive artwork from the Borchard studio was created in response to Sustained Color No. 10 “mother earth!” and also harmonises perfectly with Sustained Color No. 3 “give warmth” from the COLORNETWORK.
The pared-back color palette of warm earth tones and light natural shades lends the work a calm, sophisticated aura and echoes the grounded, unifying effect of the two Sustained Colors.
‘mother earth! II’ is a one-off piece. Created on canvas using sustainable acrylic paints in a multi-layered, labour-intensive process, it forms a composition of gentle movements and intertwining lines. A light current runs through the picture from the bottom left – like a stream of life gently making its way through the layers of the earth. It draws the eye into a bright area where the movements merge softly into one another, creating a gentle, organic circular motion. Like a symbol of creation and origin, the light unfolds from the depths of the painting. Glazed layers of paint meet impasto textures, creating a subtle depth that calmly guides the viewer’s gaze through the painting.”
The canvas is made of 100 per cent cotton and is stretched over an FSC-certified pine wood stretcher frame. Measuring 70 × 100 cm, the work makes a striking impression whilst retaining its calm, balancing effect.
